Gajner City Guide

Introduction to Gajner : Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary and Palace -Watch flocks of imperial sand grouse, as you wander through the lush foliage of woods located on the Jaisalmer road. Gajner is also home to nilgai, chinkara, wild boar and black buck. Gajner Palace, a summer resort of Kings built on the beautiful lake along the sanctuary, is a spot worth visiting.

Sightseeing: Gajner Palace- Built by Maharaja Ganga Singh of Bikaner, the Gajner Palace Hotel, is situated near a lake and is surrounded by a lush forest. Its copious wooden fringes attract an innumerable variety of feathered species. During the reign of Maharaja Ganga Singhji, the palace served as an ideal base for grand shoots and lavish entertainment.

Excursions: Just 32 kilometres from Bikaner, the Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a variety of wild animals. The adjoining lake that reflects the charming pink sandstone palace and gardens contrasts so effectively with the surrounding scrubland where black back, chital, sambhar, chinkara, nilgai, wild boar, rabbits, partridges, quail, and Indian bustard abound, that you wonder if it’s real, or a desert mirage. From the paved terrace, you see jungle animals come down to the water for a drink. This lake attracts millions of migratory birds in winter. The Maharajah of Bikaner held house parties for shooting grouse, duck, and wild boar here.
