Day 1 Arrive Delhi Arrive Delhi. Meet and assist on arrival and transfer to the hotel. Overnight in Delhi. Day 2 In New Delhi Following a buffet breakfast at the hotel, you will have a combined sightseeing tour of Old Delhi & New Delhi… a visit to Red Fort, Jama Masjid and Raj Ghat in Old Delhi, and in New Delhi Humayun's Tomb and the Qutab Minar. Drive past the India Gate, the Parliament building and the President's residence. Later visit the "Santushti Complex" There are some wonderful shops that sell craft products and handloom textiles and a number of designer shops that are of interest. Overnight in Delhi. Day 3 New Delhi to Jaipur Following a buffet breakfast at the hotel, drive to the Pink City of Jaipur(252kms/5 hrs). In the afternoon, sightseeing tour of Jaipur, including the City Palace and Jantar Mantar or Astronomical Observatory. Later, visit a leading tie-and-dye textile shop/outlet. Tie-and-dye textiles, called bandhej or bandhani are an important Rajasthani craft. Different methods are used to tie the fabric into small points and produce various patterns like lehariya, mothda, ekdali and shikari. Overnight at the hotel. Day 4 In Jaipur After a buffet breakfast at the hotel, you will be to the ancient capital of Amber. En route see the `Palace of Winds', or Hawa Mahal. At Amber, ascend the fort on elephant back and take a tour of the palace. In the afternoon, visit Gem Palace. The Kasliwal family is one of India's leading jewelry exporters. Later visit Anokhi for Traditional Indian weaves and fabrics, made into bed sheets, cushion covers, fabrics, and quilts, Indian and Western wear. Its not only the traditional weaves for which Anokhi is famous, but also for the vegetable dyes they use and the fact that almost all the fabrics are hand-block printed. The leather shops in Johri bazaar sell exquisite, hand crafted footwear, which are made of delicate leather cutwork. Overnight at the hotel. Day 5 Jaipur to Agra via Fatehpur Sikri Today, after breakfast, drive from Jaipur to Agra (232 kms/4 hrs) en-route visiting Fatehpur Sikri, the deserted red sandstone city, built by the great Mughal Emperor Akbar as his capital. Upon arrival in Agra, check-in to hotel. Later visit the "Petra Dura Workshop" whose marble inlay is amongst the most renowned of India's handicrafts. You will also have the opportunity of witnessing fine quality marble inlay work in process. Overnight will be at the hotel. Day 6 In Agra Following a buffet breakfast at the hotel, visit Taj Mahal (closed on Fridays). Proceed to the Itmad-ud-Daulah, the beautiful tomb of Mirza Ghiyath Begam. Return to the hotel for lunch. Afternoon, proceed to visit the Agra Fort the seat and the stronghold of the Mughal . Later visit some renowned carpet manufacturers especially silk carpets with gold threadwork. Agra has amongst the oldest tradition of carpet and durrie making in India and these workshops are a fine representation of what is available in India. Overnight at the hotel. Day 7 Agra to Varanasi Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport for flight to Varanasi. Later in the afternoon, proceed for an excursion to Sarnath, located just outside Varanasi where it is said Buddha preached his first sermon. Overnight at the hotel. Day 8 Varanasi to Kolkata [Calcutta] Very early in the morning you will take a boat ride along the bathing ghats on the Holy River Ganges, after sunrise you will visit some of the temples in the surrounding area. After breakfast, you will visit Madhopura, an area in Varanasi, famous for its outlet stores selling finer brocade work, cut work, silk and cotton. Later, transfer to the airport for your flight departing for Calcutta. On arrival transfer to hotel. Remainder of the day will be at leisure. Overnight at the hotel. Day 9 Kolkata [Calcutta] to Mumbai Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Proceed for city tour of Calcutta… visit the imposing Victoria Memorial, the gothic St. Paul's cathedral, Orphanage of Mother Teresa. Afternoon, you will visit Kalighat temple and Indian Museum. Also visit the Handicrafts and Handlooms Export Corporation of India Limited. The handcrafted product range includes brass, bell metal, wood carving, horn, shell, marble inlay, silver inlay, stone, embroideries, papier mache, costume jewelry, glass, ceramic, terra-cotta, jute etc. In the evening transfer the airport for flight to Mumbai. On arrival transfer to hotel. Overnight at the hotel. Day 10 Mumbai After breakfast, excursion by motor launch to Elephanta Island, approximately 1 hour journey. Return to the hotel after the excursion. In the afternoon, sightseeing tour of Bombay… visit the Gateway of India, Nehru Park and the 'Hanging Gardens' on Malabar Hill. Later visit some of the finest boutiques of Mumbai… visit Mélange, a boutique that is frequented by upscale shoppers and houses the latest designer collections. Proceed to Ensemble, India's top-notch boutique housing the best talents in design. Day 11 Depart Mumbai Transfer to the International Airport for your onward flight. |
