On Wheels |

| It's
a journey worthy of kings. No wonder the experience is labelled
the Palace on Wheels. With its cream saloons, embellished with
intricate designs, chug through Rajasthan on a journey through the
former royal kingdoms of this state.
Day 01 . Wednesday
Reporting Time: 1600 hrs. Departure: 1830 hrs
New Delhi - The journey begins at the Delhi Cantonment
station.
Day 02 . Thursday Arrival: 0200 hrs. Departure: 1930 hrs
Jaipur - You will be welcomed to Jaipur by caparisoned elephants
and strains of the Shehnai. Sightseeing- Hawa Mahal or the Palace
of Winds, Amber Fort, Jaipur's famous jewellery,
handicrafts, carpets, blue pottery and textiles. Lunch at Rambagh
Palace Hotel, visit the City Palace, Jantar Mantar, the
observatory built by Sawai Jai Singh II. Back to Palace-On-Wheels
around 1830 hrs. Dinner on board.
Day 03 . Friday Arrival: 0815 hrs. Departure 2300 hrs
Jaisalmer - Discover the painstakingly latticed havelis or
mansions with their grand facades. See the Nathmalji-ki-haveli,
Patwon-ki-haveli and Salim Singh-ki-haveli, shop for fine pattu
shawls, mirror work and embroidered articles, wooden boxes,
trinkets, silver jewellery and curios. Lunch on board, camel ride
on the sand dunes of Sam. Dinner and cultural programmes.
Day 04 . Saturday Arrival: 0700 hrs. Departure: 1530 hrs
Jodhpur - the second largest city of Rajasthan, known for its
rock-solid Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada and a group of royal
cenotaphs made of white marble. After lunch at a Palace Hotel,
return to the Palace-On-Wheels. Shop for exquisite handcrafted
articles including the famous breeches, embroidered shoes,etc.
Day 05 . Sunday Arrival: 0400 hrs. Departure: 1030 hrs
Sawai Madhopur - visit the Ranthambhor National Park, considered
to be the country's best wildlife sanctuary for observing and
photographing the activities of the tiger. Leave for Chittaurgarh.
Day 05 . Sunday Arrival: 1600 hrs.
Chittaurgarh - After lunch on board you are in Chittaurgarh-
Chittaurgarh Fort is all this and more. Moving legends of honour
and pride will echo in your mind as you proceed to Udaipur.
Day 06 . Monday Arrival: 2000 hrs.
Udaipur - the Lake City, the next morning. See the Jag Niwas
(Lake Palace) and the Jag Mandir, at Lake Pichola. Lunch at Lake
Palace Hotel, visit to the City Palace. Back to the train at
Chittaurgarh.
Day 07 . Tuesday Arrival: 0630 hrs. Departure :0935 hrs
Bharatpur - capital of Maharaja Suraj Mal. Visit to the world
famous bird sanctuary, Keoladeo Ghana National Park, the nestling
place for thousands of Egrets, Siberian Cranes, migratory Water
Fowl etc.
Day 07 . Tuesday Arrival: 1430 hrs. Departure: 2100 hrs
Agra - Arrive at Fatehpur Sikri- the red sandstone Mughal complex.
Sigtseeing- Mosque of Sheikh Salim Chisti. After lunch, move on
from the Red Fort and arrive at the Taj Mahal, one of the Seven
Wonders of the World.
Day 08 . Wednesday Delhi Arrive 0600 hrs
Arrive back at Delhi Cantonment station and proceed for onward
journey. |

step aboard The Deccan Odyssey is to step into a different world.
Here the opulence and pleasant hospitality evoke your senses and
makes you remember the romantic age of travel- a journey through
ancient mountains and mysterious forts, pristine beaches and
charming villages.
Day 01- Mumbai- a city of
dreams ... modern, yet preserving its antiquities as a short drive
through the city will reveal. Board the train in the evening at
Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, one of Mumbai's most famous gothic
landmarks. Wine and dine in comfort as the train sets about its
voyage.
Day 02 - Jaigad -
Ganapatipule - Ratnagiri - Bhatye Visit Jaigad Fort, high on a
cliffside overlooking the ocean. View Konkan village life,
unreachable by road. Travel to Ganapatipule by road, a scenic
drive. Enjoy Konkan cuisine, visit the holy temple shrine
dedicated to Lord Ganesh and walk the beach amongst swaying palms.
Head out to Ratnagiri by air-conditioned coach and visit the
beaches. Depart in the evening.
Day 03 - Sindhudurg -
Tarkali - Sawantwadi Visit Sindhudurg Fort by boat, and walk
the two-mile long rampart walls with views of the open sea. Head
to Tarkali beach by luxury coach, a virgin beach at the confluence
of the River Karli. Enjoy a Malvani lunch and move on to
Sawantwadi by coach, the entrance point to Goa. You may also visit
Shilpa Gram village to watch local craftsmen go about their work.
A traditional meal on board the train during the evening as you
head for Goa.
Day 04 - Goa Visit the
ruins of Old Goa, the Basilica of Bom Jesus, the Cathedral and the
Church of St. Francis of Assissi, now an archaeological museum.
Move on to Priol, home to one of the Mangeshi Temples. A boat
cruise down the Mandovi river follows featuring entertainment and
Goan delicacies. Visit Fontanhas, the latin quarter of Panjim,
Goa's capital, followed by Dona Paula, a small palm fringed beach.
In the evening head back to the station for wining and dining on
board.
Day 05 - Pune Morning
arrival in Pune, former capital of the Marathas and home to poets,
writers and artists. Sightseeing- Phule Mandia, Rajar Kelkar
museum, the Iyengar Yoga Institute, famous the world over.
After lunch at the Taj Blue Diamond we visit the Osho Ashram
commune, focusing on meditation. Next comes the tribal museum and
the David synagogue, Aga Khan Palace. In the evening comes the
light and sound show at the Shaniwarwada Palace. A sumptuous meal
is prepared on board the train prior to departure for Aurangabad.
Day 06 - Aurangabad
Sightseeing- fortress of Daulatabad, the world famous Ellora
Caves, a world heritage site consisting of a series of Hindu, Jain
and Buddhist caves originating from the 7th to the 14th centuries.
Return to Aurangabad for lunch before visiting the Shivaji museum
followed by the Aurangabad Caves and the Bibi-Ka-Maqbara, a
replica of the Taj Mahal. Return to the train for an evening meal
and departure to our next port of call.
Day 07 - Ajanta - Nashik
Visit the Ajanta Caves, which date from the 3rd to the 7th
centuries. Return and depart for the Sula winery at Govardhan park
visiting the vineyards along the way. Wine and dine in comfort as
the sun sets before heading back to Nashik Road station to board
the train to Mumbai.
Day 08 - Mumbai Enjoy
breakfast on board as we arrive in Mumbai, Indiašs commercial
capital. Alight at Chhatrapati Shivaji rail terminus as the tour
draws to its conclusion. |

77-year-old line, connecting Neral to mMatheran, is the main way
to reach the tiny hill resort, close to Mumbai. As a little train
wheezes up into the clear mountain air, on can view the scenic
vista of hills and plains below. The lack of vehicular traffic at
Matheran makes it an unusual and peaceful retreat. The journey up
to Matheran from Neral takes about one-and-a-half hours. The toy
train runs between sunrise and sunset. |
